Most alpines will thrive in a sunny, well-drained situation in a scree, rock garden or trough. The more demanding ones require a more specialized culture. Crevice and tufa culture, we have found from experience, is most successful. Furthermore,
Kabschia saxifrage, Primula allionii and certain Lewisia species prefer
a northern exposure in the garden where they are protected from midday
sun. Many require alpine house culture and protection from winter wet.
Woodlanders prefer cool, moist situation in shade or semi-shade.
